That You Have an Upcoming Vacation or Trip Planned

One of the things that you should avoid telling to your disability management company is that you have an upcoming trip or vacation planned. First, the company may begin to wonder if you are filing a disability claim in lieu of using vacation time. Second, the company may then question how you can be unable to work, but able to travel and enjoy your vacation. Mentioning this can raise many questions which may result in your case being delayed. 

That You Are Caring For an Ill Family Member or New Baby

Another thing that you should avoid telling a disability insurance company is that you are caring for an ill family member or a new baby. The company may wonder if you are using the disability as a way to get out of work to care for your loved one while still bringing income in. Additionally, caring for a baby or an ill family member can be physically-demanding and laborious. If you admit to being able to do these tasks, it may be hard to believe that you cannot work. 

That You Plan on Filing Other Disability Claims

The final thing that you should avoid doing is telling your disability company that you plan on filing other disability claims. Some people file both short and long term disability claims, trying to figure out which may be a better fit for them. Other people file long term disability while they are in the process of filing social security disability. While you have to report any other disability income you are receiving, you do not have to tell an adjuster that you have or are planning on filing other claims until the claims are approved and start to pay out. Filing claims with multiple entities can raise red flags, even though you are likely just trying to get paid as quickly as possible.
